What is Collective Consciousness?
Collective Consciousness is a mass of energy co-created by the people in society; it has been cultivated throughout time—past, present, and future. This field of energy is given strength and power through the masses of people pouring their energy into it, knowingly and unknowingly. It consists of all of humanity’s fears, discomfort, anger, and pain, balled up with our joy, love, play, etc. It is, in many ways, an energetic fog of society’s creation.
This energy fog can influence our way of life and the frequencies we embody. This often occurs without us even realizing it, making us more susceptible to its energy, and it begins to influence our ways of life. But once you know it’s there, it becomes easier to tune out or into the collective consciousness. However, you can never fully leave it, as you are intimately part of this society, world, and collective reality.
Collective Consciousness of Fear
For some time now, fear has been the overwhelmingly dominant force in the collective consciousness. This is partially because we have been taught to fear life, and our media is used in such a way as to entice this feeling from us. Fear speaks to our primal instincts, encouraging us to be in a state of survival and to feel like victims of life. It is also one of the hardest frequencies to get out of. Once we enter a state of fear, it easily grows out of hand and encourages panic, greed, hate, anxiety, and stress, to name a few. Fear also has many layers; once one fear is faced, another appears to take its place, seemingly never-ending.
When fear is the driving force in our lives, we operate in fight/flight/freeze mode. When we exist in the essence of fear, we are not in a creative/loving energy, which is life’s true purpose. Instead, we exist in a state of fighting for safety and control. This can drive anyone a bit crazy because it seems that all of life is against us and that we are stuck in our current circumstances. When, in reality, life wants to support us, help us, and move through us if we allow ourselves to surrender to it. We cannot surrender to life if we are fighting it, we cannot trust life if we are in a state of fear, nor can we flow with life if we are holding onto old energy from the past.
This fear-based way of life has become so ingrained within our society and the collective consciousness that to be without fear seems ludicrous. It’s normal to be fearful, and things that entice fear have been normalized by our society. Women fear harassment on outings, mass shootings instill public fear, the workforce stresses about economic instability, mothers fear for their children's well-being, and the depletion of planetary resources sparks anxiety. These are all serious issues that need resolution, but they cannot be addressed effectively from a place of fear. Fear does not produce long-lasting results. Change can only happen from love.
Furthermore, most people will try to find every reason to validate their fear and its relevance in their life. Even our bodies will try to convince us that we need to be fearful, for the body has also been conditioned to live from this state of being, creating chemical imbalances and an addiction to the fight/flight/freeze mode. This allows the frequency of fear to remain in our body, energetic field, and reality, continuing to influence our choices, actions, and emotional state of being. Even if it is not at the forefront of our mind, it will continue to affect us on a subconscious level.
Shifting from Fear to Love
In shifting from fear to love, there must be an opening to True Self. The True Self is intimately connected to all of existence and love; some would call this inner awareness, consciousness, higher self, soul, or spirit. Regardless of the name, you must connect with this part of you so that you can begin to develop self-love, compassion, kindness, intuition, joy, and other high-vibrational energies.
By opening up to your True Self, the healing journey becomes much easier. The healing journey, or the cleansing journey, is all about the smaller self. This is the self that has been created through time. This self has accumulated life experiences, stacking them upon one another to form a personality. Within the smaller self lies a deep memory of all that has occurred in your life so far, responsible for all of your beliefs, patterns, habits, ways of life, and internal programs, as well as your current internal state of mind and heart. This is the part of us wrapped up in the frequency of fear and entangled in the collective consciousness. When the lower self controls our lives, we feel like victims or judges of our world. We live based on programs and behaviors we picked up in childhood, operating off of internal safety mechanisms that kept us safe as children but now keep us trapped as adults.
When you cultivate deeper awareness of the smaller self and integrate wellness and spiritual practices to support it, you naturally embark on the healing/cleansing journey. This journey involves clearing internal processes that no longer serve you, cleansing the emotional body of fear and past experiences, and rewiring yourself for a healthier mind.
Furthermore, the healing journey involves connecting the smaller self with the high-vibrational energy of the True Self. This builds an internal system of safety and support, creating the ability to step out of the frequency of fear and into one of trust and love. You can then harmonize your smaller self with the True Self, aligning with a deeper frequency of love and light. This alignment allows you to consciously reprogram and create a new version of the smaller self, keeping what serves you, transforming the rest, and incorporating new ideas, beliefs, and programs that resonate with the True Self. With these two selves working together, you can bring in a grounded frequency of love and other positive emotions such as joy, compassion, and gratitude into your reality and the world.
As you do this, you harmonize your energy field and the True Self with every aspect of your being. When this synchronicity occurs, you vibrate at a higher level, a frequency closer to the infinite love that created us. This love is always present; it is simply about making space for it by clearing out existing noise, opening yourself up to it, and accepting it as your birthright. When this happens, you emit this frequency through your energetic field, your aura. Others can feel it, and you begin to encourage them energetically to resonate on a higher frequency rather than the frequency of fear. This helps expand and strengthen the collective consciousness of love.
Going Forward
We can acknowledge that fear-inducing events occur in life, but we do not have to accept the fear itself. We can choose to power through it, face it, and use it for personal and spiritual growth. We can choose to live life in the essence of love, excited for its adventures, and be open to the gift it has always been—something to cherish, enjoy, and have fun with.
By maintaining awareness, acceptance, healing, and connection to a higher force, we can consciously shift from fear to love. Separating ourselves from the resonance of fear and its lower frequencies is an ongoing practice in our lives. But it can be done. It requires separating our minds from the external narrative and aligning them with the narratives of our True Self and that of Love. By doing this every day, in every moment we can remember, it will eventually become as natural as breathing. The more people who commit to this, the stronger the collective consciousness field of love becomes, eventually overpowering the frequency of fear.
Questions to Explore Your Relationship with Fear
Before answering, take a few deep breaths, center yourself, and invite your True Self or Higher Self to guide your awareness.
In what ways am I unconsciously absorbing fear? (Through media, conversations, or my environment?)
Where in my body does fear reside, and what does it feel like?
What past experience still holds fear within me? How is it shaping my present reality?
If I could ask my inner child what they are afraid of, what would they say?
What dreams, desires, or creative ideas have I been avoiding? How is fear holding me back from pursuing them?
Are there parts of myself I am afraid to see, accept, or embrace? Why?
In what ways do I, consciously or unconsciously, contribute to the collective energy of fear?
Questions to Connect with Your True Self / Higher Self
Allow yourself to feel, not just think, as you explore these questions with an open heart.
If love had a voice within me, what would it tell me?
How does love feel in my body? How can I invite more of that feeling into my daily life?
What shifts can I make to welcome more love, joy, and gratitude into my heart?
How can I share more love and light in the world around me?
What aspects of myself or my life need more compassion and tenderness?
Where does my healing need the most attention right now?
